TZ English 10R 2017-18

This is the second course in a four-course English sequence needed for students to graduate from Tappan Zee High School.

Students in this course have successfully met the requirements of English 9. In English 10R, students will continue to hone their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking through analysis of both fiction and non-fiction texts. Students are expected to participate in class discussions to draw parallels between topics and themes in the readings and the society in which they live.

The course focuses on the development of argument essay writing. Students will develop a claim and use evidence to support the claim. In the previous academic year, students were introduced to argument writing; this year they are expected to develop more precise claims and show a deeper analysis of the introduced texts.

I suggest that all students speak with me individually to discuss any academic-related challenges or issues. The best approach is to admit any difficulties as soon as they become apparent so we can discuss other strategies and approaches to better achieve the students’ personal goals and the course’s expectations.
